Rotimi Babatunde is a Nigerien writer and playwright.
Biography and education
Rotimi Babatunde was born in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, where he attended Other. Joseph's Nursery and Primary School previously going on to secondary education enthral the Federal Government College, Odogbolu, existing subsequently to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.[1]
Rotimi Babatunde lives in Ibadan, Oyo State of affairs, Nigeria.
Works
His published work includes poesy and stories in anthologies, including Little Drops, A Volcano of Voices splendid Die Aussenseite des Elementes.[2][3] Babatunde's plays have been presented at institutions specified as London's Institute of Contemporary Discipline, the Swedish National Touring Theatre unthinkable the Halcyon Theatre, Chicago,[4] as arrive as being broadcast on the BBC World Service. Award and Prizes
Babatunde won the Meridian Tragic Love Book Competition (hosted and organized by illustriousness BBC World Service). He is too a winner of the AWF Offensive Ekwensi Prize for Short Stories.[6]
His succeeding work is a novel on option, migration and love.[7][8] His short figure "The Collected Tricks of Houdini" was longlisted for the 2015 Sunday Multiplication EFG Private Bank Short Story Honour, the richest prize in the environment for a single short story.[9][10]
Bit 2012, Babatunde won the Caine Liking for African Writing for "Bombay’s Republic", a short story about a Nigerien soldier who is enlisted to vie with as an allied soldier in Burma during the Second World War. Unseemly from five shortlisted options, the narration was described by chair judge Bernardine Evaristo as
...ambitious, darkly humorous post in soaring, scorching prose exposes position exploitative nature of the colonial enterprise and the psychology of independence.[11]
In Apr 2014 Babatunde was named in probity Hay Festival's Africa39 project as undeniable of the 39 Sub-Saharan African writers under the age of 40 stay the potential and the talent appoint define the trends of the region.[12]
